How can we help?

What is Parent Advocacy?

The overall aims of Parent Advocacy are:

  • to reduce the numbers of children entering the care system
  • to keep families together.

Parent advocacy provides voice and choice to parents, by supporting parents to navigate the child protection system, and to be fully involved in the decision-making processes.

The role of the Parent Advocate

Parent Advocates

  • Work under instruction from parents
  • Do not offer advice or opinion and never take action without the consent of the parent
  • Do not make judgements or decisions on behalf of a parent.

What people say about our service

  • "Without having the service, I would have had a quiet voice. With my advocates support I felt I was able to have the confidence to ask questions. She opened my mind, so I then knew what I was able to do. I wouldn't have been in that position without her."

  • "I am always so happy to see you and your team at our conferences. You make the world of difference to our families, and I am so grateful to you too."
    Professional
  • "My advocate was able to explain things in a way I understood and that helped to make sure the decisions were things I agreed on."
    Parent
  • "I would like to make you aware of the fantastic job your advocate has done in supporting mum, as her Advocate and working collaboratively with me, during mums parenting assessment and Court proceedings. She is an excellent communicator, reliable, consistent, and always contactable. She has diligently supported mum through an extremely stressful process, and I know mum has benefitted enormously from this. Throughout my sessions with mum and Ethe advocate, she has ensured mum had a good understanding of what was being discussed, explored, and offered her appropriate alternative explanations and emotional support, when necessary. I’m very grateful for her professionalism, empathy, sensitivity, and the kindness she has shown towards mum. She is a credit to your services and deserves for her important role to be acknowledged."
    Professional
  • "It’s helped me understand my rights and has helped me use my voice to air my wishes and feelings which is something I have struggled with previously."
    Parent
  • "Excellent communication observed between the advocate and the person they were supporting. Very supportive during difficult discussions and reassurance also offered as required."
    Professional
  • "Advocacy has helped my understanding of the process and in turn, has helped it become less scary. Knowing I have support when entering the conferences makes a huge difference."
